Happy Holidays

We all look forward to December…and why not? Everyone is in the holiday spirit. Some of you are fortunate enough to get a bonus. Perhaps a Secret Santa will deliver you a gift. Many of us enjoy the eggnog.

As much as I enjoy celebrating Christmas (25th), Chanukah (11th) and New Year’s Eve (31st), I’m the kind of guy who gets bored easily. I’m considering celebrating something different this December. So, you are thinking, is he going to observe Kwanzaa (26th)? Perhaps. I might just get nutty and celebrate a holiday you have never heard of, and I bet there are some real winners. Here are a few, and yes, they are all “real” holidays in December.

Here’s one that is probably popular these days, National Pawnbrokers Day (6th). I am sure you are aware of Pearl Harbor Day (7th) but did you know that same date it is also National Cotton Candy Day? I wonder if dentists invented that one to drum up business.

National Re-Gifting Day (17th) seems like it should be after Christmas as opposed to prior.

Did you realize that Festivus (23rd) the holiday for the rest of us, made popular on the Seinfeld show now really exists?

Perhaps I will celebrate Boxing Day (26th) this year. I must admit that I used to think it had something to do with donning the gloves and entering the ring. However, the name actually derives from the English tradition giving seasonal gifts (in the form of a "Christmas box") to less wealthy people. In the United Kingdom, this was later extended to various workpeople such as laborers, servants, trades people and postal workers. How perfect for us folks at Labor Finders!
